Phoenix-based guitarist and bassist Jim Resnick has built a dynamic career spanning multiple genres, performing and recording with artists like Chris Fisher (Spyro Gyra), Tony Leone (Little Feat), Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson, and jazz flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny. Locally, he’s played with top musicians, including Holly Pyle, Kim Weston, Sandra Bassett, and The Lucky Devils, and is the current guitarist for The New Guard Big Band, specializing in Count Basie-era swing.

Trained at the Hartt School of Music and under Stan Kenton’s longtime guitarist Sal Salvador, Jim is fluent in rock, jazz, R&B, soul, blues, funk, folk, and more. Though he’s lived in major music hubs like LA, San Francisco, and London, he grew up in the creative, gritty scene of New York City.

“Guitar is a supporting instrument,” Jim says. “You serve the singer, the song, the musical statement. Solos should only come when there’s room.” His commitment to the music—not the spotlight—has kept him in demand for years.
